Our Team

  • James Lee

    CEO

James undertook his PhD in Toshiba’s Quantum Information Group at Cambridge University where he developed photon sources for quantum computing, followed by a time modelling equity derivatives at an investment bank. He holds masters degrees in Photonic Systems Development from Cambridge University and Physics from Oxford University.

  • Matthew Anderson

    CSO

Matthew focuses on the photonic modelling aspects of Wave Photonics’ technology and on component design. He completed his PhD working in Toshiba’s Quantum Information Group at Cambridge University where he explored entangled photon sources at telecoms wavelengths for secure communication. He also holds a master’s degree in Physics from St. Andrews University.

  • Mateusz Kubica

    CTO

Mateusz focuses on the computational optimisation and statistical modelling aspects of Wave Photonics. Before co-founding Wave Photonics, he worked for 9 years as an equity derivatives quant and quantitative developer at an investment bank where he helped build a Monte Carlo pricing engine. He holds a master’s in mathematics from University of Wrocław.

  • Ming Zhang

    Non-executive director

Dr. Ming Zhang is most recently Distinguished Architect at Synopsys, driving semiconductor technology strategy and new market development. Prior to Synopsys, he was co-founder and CEO of a Silicon Valley chiplet startup, zGlue. His experience at Intel and at the Samsung foundry focused on manufacturing process/circuit modeling and robust chip design. He holds a Ph.D. in EE from UIUC and a B.S. in Physics from Peking University.

  • Jiangbo Zhu

    Senior Photonics Engineer

Jiangbo’s work is primarily on component library development and ensuring that the designs integrate with the needs of packagers. Prior to joining Wave Photonics, he worked as Senior Lecturer at Northumbria University where he co-founded the Quantum and Molecular Photonics research group. Jiangbo has over a decade of integrated photonics research experience covering applications in communications, sensing and quantum technologies - after completing his PhD at Fudan University, he held research positions at Bristol University and Glasgow University.

  • Friederike Jöhlinger

    Photonics Engineer

Friederike is working on expanding the company’s component library. Prior to joining Wave Photonics, she undertook her PhD in integrated quantum photonics at Bristol University where she worked on implementation security of chip-scale quantum key distribution (QKD). During her PhD, Friederike joined Wave photonics for a 6-month secondment where she helped develop a passive, chip-based approach to QKD. She also holds a masters in physics from Glasgow University.

  • Giannis Chatzopoulos

    Photonics Engineer

Giannis joins Wave Photonics from the Dimensional Metrology Group at the National Physical Laboratory where he developed optical techniques for metrology. Prior to this, he completed a postdoc and PhD at the University of Southampton focused on integrated photonics for quantum technologies. He brings a great range of computational and experimental capability to Wave Photonics. Giannis will focus on making Wave Photonics’ components accessible to chip designers.

  • Mark Miller

    Advisor

Mark is a serial entrepreneur with over 30 years of experience in semiconductors, foundries, Electronics Design Automation, Bioscience, and Medical Device industries. Having founded, run and exited multiple startups, he brings perspective from his time in both startups and Fortune 500 companies.

  • Bence Parti

    Photonics Engineer

Bence’s work at Wave Photonics uses his background in mathematical modelling to focus on component adaptation and optimisation.

Before joining Wave Photonics, Bence completed a masters in Mathematical and Theoretical Physics at Oxford, where he also undertook a research project on quantum random walks, developing scripts to test new models.
